The Association for Women in Psychology (AWP) is hosting a presentation to honor Transgender Awareness Week. There are an increasing number of people who identify as transgender or non-binary. Some psychotherapists, however, don’t feel confident or comfortable working with transgender clients. The goal of this presentation is to help both therapists and allies have a greater understanding of transgender people so that they they can offer appropriate help and support. Learn about transgender terminology as well as standards of care guidelines from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). Review common reasons that transgender people seek therapy. Discuss the ethical considerations about working with transgender clients with an understanding of their intersecting identities. How do factors such as race, culture, religion, age, abilities, education and socioeconomic status affect the client’s personal and mental health needs? Learn what kind of discrimination, prejudice and risks that transgender people face on a regular basis?

Location: We have a new location for our meetings this year.We will be meeting at the office of the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault (UCASA). The address is 284 West 400 North.
It is easiest to enter through the parking lot located on the north side of the building from 300 west.
